The Department for Education (DfE) has announced that pre-application for the next wave of free schools will open on 18 June with the deadline for submission as 17 September 2018.
Qufaro is very pleased with this announcement as we have spent considerable resources on preparing for this moment. However, it is apparent that the free schools programme remains challenged with only 35 schools expected to be approved by the DfE this time.
Over the coming weeks, Qufaro will be engaging with the New Schools Network (the organisation established to support the establishment of new free schools) and Department officials to understand the assessment criteria that will be used to select successful applications and where the Qufaro National College of Cyber Security (NCCS) sits within current DfE priorities.
The Qufaro Board remains committed to establishing the NCCS at Bletchley Park. We now need to ensure that a free school application remains the optimum route for achieving this; particularly as, even if successful, it will be a number of years until the College could open under the free schools programme. We are currently investigating alternative options for achieving the same goal earlier.
In the meantime, we continue to deliver and further develop our online Cyber Extended Project Qualification as a means of providing a cost effective and recognised foundational qualification in cyber security with pre-registration for the 2018/19 course opening shortly.
